Thomson Reuters (NASDAQ: TRI) Outperforms with Strong Earnings and AI Focus

On August 6, 2026, analyst firm Scotiabank (NYSE: BNS) reiterated its "Outperform" rating for Thomson Reuters (NASDAQ: TRI), when the stock's price was $98.08. Thomson Reuters is a global provider of business information services. The company offers expert-driven information and technology for professionals in the legal, tax, corporate, and media markets.

The rating is supported by TRI's strong financial performance. For the second quarter of 2026, the company reported earnings of $0.99 per share. This figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.96 per share. This is known as an earnings surprise, which in this case was 3.13%, showing the company performed better than analysts expected.

Revenue figures also show significant strength. Thomson Reuters posted revenues of $1.95 billion, which was 2.06% above analyst estimates. As highlighted by PR Newswire, total revenues grew by 9%, while its three main segments saw organic revenue growth of 10%. This strong performance led the company to increase its revenue targets for the year.

The company is also actively managing its capital to benefit shareholders. It completed a $605 million return of capital transaction, which reduced its total number of shares. Thomson Reuters also finished a $600 million share repurchase program. A share repurchase is when a company buys back its own stock, which can increase the value of remaining shares.

Strategically, Thomson Reuters is sharpening its focus. The company announced a joint venture with KKR (NYSE: KKR) for its Global Print business, which allows it to concentrate more on AI-powered solutions. CEO Steve Hasker stated the priority is deepening the company's leadership in "Fiduciary-Grade AI solutions," indicating a clear direction for future growth.
