This index is constructed from a combination of two primary asset types: it holds long positions in high-quality corporate bonds, denominated in U.S. dollars and issued by companies based both in the United States and abroad. Alongside these, it maintains short positions in U.S. government debt instruments, specifically Treasury notes or bonds. The aggregate interest rate sensitivity (duration) of these short Treasury positions is intentionally kept roughly equivalent to that of the investment-grade corporate bonds, serving to hedge against potential interest rate movements.
