Old Dominion University Sets New Benchmark in Cybersecurity Education

Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is a prominent R1 research institution known for its academic excellence and contributions to the state's economy. The University has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first to receive dual validation from the National Security Agency (NSA) for its innovative cyber and artificial intelligence programs. This recognition sets a new national benchmark in cybersecurity education.

The University's Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity with a Major in Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity received the AICyber validation, while the Master of Science in Cybersecurity with a concentration in AI Security was validated for the SecureAI program. These programs are validated through 2030, showcasing the University's commitment to long-term excellence in cybersecurity education.

Old Dominion University is one of only ten higher education institutions in the nation, and the only one in Virginia, to have earned all three of NSA's Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) designations. This highlights the University's leadership in preparing students for the intersection of artificial intelligence and cyber defense, as emphasized by President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.

The School of Cybersecurity at Old Dominion University has grown significantly since its inception in 2015, enrolling approximately 1,700 students this fall and graduating over 1,500 alumni. The University offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including accelerated pathways and certificates, to prepare students for leadership roles in the national cybersecurity workforce.

Old Dominion University has developed partnerships with national agencies and companies, including local military bases, the NSA, and Amazon, to provide students with internship, research, and certification opportunities. This commitment to innovation ensures that graduates are well-equipped to lead in the cybersecurity industry.
