Jefferies raises its price target for Cenovus Energy (NYSE: CVE) to C$54.00 from C$51.00 and keeps its Buy rating. Cenovus Energy trades at C$32.94 when the update is posted. Cenovus produces oil and gas, with a focus on Canada’s oil sands, where it is expanding through strategic acquisitions and new projects.

Following its November 2025 acquisition of MEG Energy, Cenovus reports production above the rated capacity of 110,000 barrels per day at its Christina Lake North assets. Cenovus plans to spend about $400 million in growth capital to add nearly 40,000 barrels per day by 2028, highlighting its ambitious oil production targets.

Cenovus also plans to acquire Athabasca Oil in a cash-and-stock deal valued at approximately C$5.7 billion. This strategic acquisition would add about 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, as highlighted by Zacks Investment Research. Cenovus reports total upstream production of 970,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the second quarter.

Athabasca’s nearby oil sands assets offer room for further growth. Athabasca also brings about 1.3 billion barrels of proved-plus-probable reserves, as highlighted by Defense World.
