Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance (NASDAQ:REFI) Reports Q2 Earnings Miss Amidst Cannabis Loan Pipeline Growth

Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance (NASDAQ:REFI) is a commercial real estate finance company. It operates as a mortgage real estate investment trust, or mREIT. The company's main activity is originating and managing a portfolio of loans, with a specific focus on providing capital to state-licensed operators in the burgeoning cannabis industry.

On August 11, 2026, Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance announced its quarterly results, reporting an earnings per share (EPS) of $0.43. This figure did not meet the analyst consensus estimate of $0.48 per share. As highlighted by Zacks, this represents a negative earnings surprise of -10.42% and is also lower than the $0.51 per share from a year ago.

The company’s distributable earnings, which are the funds available to be paid out to shareholders, came in at $0.44 per share. This was not enough to cover its quarterly dividend of $0.47. Management explained this was due to a timing issue, as $16.30 million in loans were repaid early and the capital was not put back to work until later in the quarter.

Revenue for the quarter also missed forecasts. Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance generated $12.83 million, falling short of the expected $14.17 million. This figure also marks a decline from the $14.43 million in revenue that the company recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

Despite the recent performance, the company reports a strong pipeline of potential cannabis-related loans valued at $649.00 million. From a financial health perspective, Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance maintains a low Debt-to-Equity ratio of 0.16. This ratio indicates that the company uses significantly more equity than debt to finance its assets.
