Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) Sustains Growth Amidst Waymo Competition and Strong Financials

Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) is a major company in the transportation sector and delivery services. It is best known for its ridesharing platform, where it controls about three-quarters of the U.S. market. Uber is also diversified with a large food-delivery service and a quickly growing advertising business, generating over $50 billion in annual revenue.

On August 4, 2026, the investment firm Bernstein restated its "Buy" rating for Uber. A "Buy" rating indicates that the firm's analysts believe the stock is a good investment at its current price. At the time of the announcement, the stock was trading at $71.69 per share.

This rating is notable as Uber faces a strategic shift with its self-driving vehicle partner, Waymo. Waymo, owned by Alphabet, plans to become a direct competitor. It intends to launch its own ride-hailing app in Austin and Atlanta by early 2028, ending its exclusive robotaxi partnership with Uber in those cities.

Despite the change in its partnership with Waymo, Uber demonstrates strong financial performance. The company is now solidly profitable, and its operating income has increased significantly in recent quarters. Operating income is the profit a company makes from its main business activities before accounting for interest and taxes.

As highlighted by 24/7 Wall Street, Uber's management is also directing investor focus toward other growth areas beyond robotaxis. This suggests the company's long-term strategy does not depend solely on autonomous vehicles. The stock is currently trading at $71.99, with a total company value, or market capitalization, of approximately $146.54 billion.
