eGain (NASDAQ: EGAN) provides AI-powered knowledge management and customer experience automation solutions. Its technology helps companies improve customer service, automate support operations, and give employees and AI systems access to trusted business information.

On September 8, 2026, Roth/MKM downgraded eGain from “Buy” to “Neutral” and reduced its price target from $21.00 to $7.00. Based on the stock price of $5.84, the new target represented potential upside of approximately 19.86%. The firm attributed the downgrade primarily to eGain’s weaker-than-expected fiscal 2027 outlook.

The downgrade followed eGain’s fiscal fourth-quarter results. The company reported non-GAAP earnings of $0.08 per share, exceeding the consensus estimate of $0.03 and generating a 166.67% positive earnings surprise. GAAP earnings were lower at $0.05 per diluted share, making it important to distinguish between the two measures.

Quarterly revenue totaled $22.15 million, beating estimates by 1.84%. However, revenue declined from $23.23 millionin the same quarter last year. For the full fiscal year, total revenue increased 3% to $91.1 million, while AI customer revenue grew 20%. In the fourth quarter alone, AI customer revenue increased 11% year over year.

Despite the earnings beat, eGain shares fell 17.86% to $5.84 following the results and outlook. The company forecast fiscal 2027 revenue of $84.5 million to $86.0 million, which would represent a decline from fiscal 2026. This weak guidance overshadowed the quarterly earnings beat and contributed to the analyst downgrade.

Nevertheless, eGain received notable industry recognition after Gartner named it a Leader in the inaugural Magic Quadrant for Customer Service Knowledge Management Systems. The recognition, combined with continued growth in AI customer revenue, highlights the progress of eGain’s AI-focused business even as declining legacy revenue weighs on its near-term outlook.
